Impression of Colt State Park - Original Oil Painting by Erin Spencer

Impression of Colt State Park

Impression of Colt State Park . 3 x 7 . oil on panel . purchase

I completed this painting yesterday, but didn't want to overload the blog with my postings! I decided to do a smaller version of another larger painting I completed last week. I liked the composition so much that I decided to do another--with slightly different panel dimensions. This one is longer and shorter than the other, which you can see here.

Please stop by my new artist website!!

Flitter - Art Nouveau Fairy Cat

This watercolor painting of an art nouveau style fairy cat was one of those peices that just wouldn't let me do anything else until I finished it. I am very happy with the end results though. But then those paintings that are so insistent, usually are something special.

So Many Stories

This is a canvas I'm just finishing working on (a few more tweaks needed!) for an upcoming exhibition called "Revive, Revolve, Re-Love" based around re-cycled art.

I've used acrylics and mixed media, mainly found and re-cycled papers and objects - there's all sorts in there!

My friend Lisa came up with the title - when she saw it she made the comment "oh so many stories", and I really felt it fitted!

The canvas measures 12 x 32 x 1.5" - full view below.

After Life

After Life
watercolor painting
15 x 22
I am interested in the parallel metaphors of the mummy and the cocoon as representations of a time of stasis, wrapped in a protective layer, both as a time of healing and in preparation for emergence into a new life. This painting occurred after a visit to the Egyptian wing of the Field Museum in Chicago where I saw mummified birds, cats, and people.
You can see this and other works on my Etsy site.

Oceanside Treasure 3- Original encaustic/mixed media by Diane O'Neil

I did a series of shell paintings on aquaboard and covered them in glazes of encaustic. I am a big shell collector and it seems only natural to paint the things I am most fascinated with. We like to shell hunt in Sanibel, Florida. It is famous for its shelling.

New Piano Keys ACEOs

Treat yourself or surprise a musician in your life with a fun little pick-me-up,
a Piano Keys ACEO.

This is the third set of Piano Keys ACEOs that I've made.
I do the background differently each time, but the concept and the process has been the same.
They are fun to make and people like to collect them, so I made another set last weekend.

If you aren't sure what an ACEO is look at this earlier post What to Do with an ACEO

You can find them in my Etsy shop. My Bear Hollow Creations Shop
I'll be putting all six of them up there over the next few days.
(My Internet is rather slow at home since I have DISH satelite as my provider.)

You can go to my blog and click a link to fan my Facebook Art Page. I'd love to see you there.

Carondolet Park in St. Louis

Looking forward to summer, and city parks abound in St. Louis.  This is a print of my original painting of the Boathouse at Carondolet Park.  My ancestors lived nearby in the 1850's.  It's a beaufitul spot to enjoy a summer day!  Prints are available in my Etsy shop.

Barrington Across the Cove - Original Oil Painting by Erin Spencer

Barrington Across the Cove Plein Air

Barrington Across the Cove . 4.5 x 8 . oil on panel . purchase

I painted this today en plein air, sitting with my painting box on my lap in my sun room, looking out over Belcher's Cove toward Barrington, Rhode Island. The silvery blue day was closing and I just had to capture the scene. I see this view everyday and am always inspired by this little cove so close to home!

Please visit my painting blog, too!

Combining Watercolor Techniques

I create some of my favorite pieces by combing various watercolor techniques. With my 'code" series, I use a resist (masking fluid) to write on the paper, and then wet the whole surface and paint using a wet-in-wet technique. The background bleeds and blurs but the writing - the code- stays clear. This can give the painting an impression that the writing is floating above the page, particularly in this piece, where the blocks of different blues seem to recede and move forward as you look at it.

You can see it in my etsy shop at http://www.etsy.com/listing/40022748/blue-code-3-original-watercolor-painting. There are several other similar ones in the watercolor paintings category: http://www.etsy.com/shop/Artmonger?section_id=6762489

Color Splash

This is an encaustic I made from an earlier watercolor. I cut up a watercolor painting I had made by spraying watercolor paint on flavored tea. Then I adhered the painting to clayboard and layered encaustic over the top. I like how the encaustic adds an extra dimension to the painting.

Blue Skies

I've been following the team blog over the last week and what I have noticed is light, airy skies. I do have to admit that the skies this spring have been pretty fantastic, so much so that I have started a 'skies series' myself.

Easton's Beach

Easton's Beach Study

Easton's Beach Study / 5 x 7 / oil on canvas panel
Sold

This painting was begun en plein air out at Easton's Beach in Newport, RI. I was with my 2 year old son, sitting with my homemade pochade painting box on my lap. It was a beautiful day with beautiful early spring skies and some wind off the water. I realized shortly into the painting that I couldn't finish it there, so I took home what I had and finished it up in my studio.

You can see a progress pic on my blog:

new item: fawn, 4x4 inch panel

Hand-pressed thermal transfer, stained and varnished.
Comes ready to hang. Check it out here.
