I just finished this oil painting "PINK ROSE"
I needed a reminder that spring really is going to come.
It is has been a very cold and snowy winter here in the mid atlantic.
Please stop by my ETSY shop and see more views of this painting.
It is done on a 6x6x1 inch gallery wrapped canvas
and can be hung on the wall or sit on a shelf.

Thank you for viewing my artwork.

MAUNALUA BAY FROM PORTLOCK ~ Lisabongzee's Island Dream Life

Portlock has public access to secluded little beaches such as this one.
With Hawaii Kai and Maunalua Bay in the background, it is a great place to watch the sun go down at the end of the day.

Wild Fox Original Watercolor

Wild Fox
Melanie Pruitt 2013
Original Watercolor 11x14

After taking a workshop and working on my first animal portrait of my daughters kitten, I wanted to continue to explore and expand my skills in painting animals. A reference photo shared with artists by David Reeves Payne, grabbed me and I knew I had to give this wild fox a try.

I have used some unusual granulating watercolor paints from Daniel Smith both for the background and some of the foxes fur. It measures 11"x14" and the original is available in my Etsy Shop - The Creators Palette

I imagine it would make a wonderful piece for a den, library or even a cabin. The colors are dark and rich and the eyes of this wild fox draw you in.

Snow Moon

Snow Moon
Patricia Lee Christensen
Acrylic on Wood Panel ~ 8" X 10"
Available at my Etsy Gallery

A winter moon's glow reflects over a new layer of snow in this 8 inch x 10 inch original painting on wood panel. This image reminds me of the times as kids when we would go sledding until after dark. Then the surreal, magical scene walking home as the sparkling snow was lighting the way.

The painting has been coated with a protective gloss varnish. This art is ready to slip into a ready-made 8" x 10" frame only - no glass is necessary. It is very sturdy as it is painted on a wooden panel.

Magnolia and Dogwood

I had a customer request an iris painting to match the hydrangeas she purchased. That gave me the idea of painting more "sets". Though these two paintings are being sold separately, they are painted with the exact same color scheme. One features a branch of magnolia's and the other dogwoods. I have used my signature modern geometric background blended with the soft movement of nature. Both the Magnolia and the Dogwood paintings are available in my Etsy Shop - The Creators Palette

PLANTATION HOUSE PLETHORA Lana'i, Hawaii ~ Lisabongzee's Island Dream Life

I have been painting on the island of Lana'i for the past two weeks and having a wonderful time!
Lana'i City is filled with the colorful and characteristic little Plantation Style houses that I love so much, and driving up and down the streets with row after row of them, it does feel like you have stepped back in time. Even though I am so inspired by them, I rarely paint them because with a palette knife it is not the easiest thing to do. But I was determined on this trip to make them my main painting subjects, so I got to work. The first few paintings were quite frustrating. A friend of mine once said "Painting with a palette knife is like trying to paint with a brick." That pretty much summed up how I felt too, and was ready to throw that brick right out the window! But I kept going, and by about my 5th Plantation House painting, things started to click. I still have a bit more time here, and hopefully I have turned that brick into something that will let me paint what I really love.....My "Dream Hale's" !

Crow and Pumpkin

What started out to be a collage ended up with me writing directly on the pen and ink drawing which had taken a few hours to accomplish.  It was scary as I like to use traditional dip pens.  I do not actually write enough to feel confident.  Does anybody write that much any more, since we use our computers / tablets / phones almost totally?  It was doubly stressful as the paper is 140 lb Arches cold-press watercolor paper.  That means it is fairly rough and a challenge to draw on with my dip pens, let alone try to write in script.

I did experience one of the most dreaded casualties in pen work with the drip of a drop of ink on the crow in the sketch stage.  Luckily it was in an area that could be completely darkened.  Whew!  I have not had that happen in a very long time...

I love these Daler Rowney FW Artists acrylic inks I have been using.  They are great to draw with when you know you are going to watercolor over them... They also have a nice selection in colors at our Hobby Lobby! I have included the sketch stage as well as the finished watercolor.

A TRIP TO THE GRAND TETONS (well, sort of....) ~ Lisabongzee's Island Dream Life

We haven’t been back to the mainland in quite a few years now, and I am actually starting to miss it a bit. I decided to try something new, paint-wise, and attempt a few scenes of the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming. We were there in 2009 and 2010 on backcountry camping trips, and our photos bring back great memories. But painting these scenes was challenging. Rugged granite mountaintops and rolling hills of colorful wildflowers differ quite a bit from tropical palm trees and turquoise water! Even the sky is a different shade of blue than our Hawaii sky. It turned out to be a lot of fun though, and I am glad I tried something new. Plus, I got to spend a “virtual” week back at the Grand Tetons!
