Cocoa Peacock Bride original painting

Cocoa Peacock Bride original painting, by Cindy Davis, $20, in my Etsy Shop

I have been eating a lot of "raw" chocolate lately and I believe it is influencing my paintings!

This paintings is from my Twenty-Something Collection.

Twenty-Somethings are doodles, studies, experiments, and sketches, usually on paper, that come out of my studio as I prepare for my larger works. I have a lot of fun with them, and I like e-meeting all the different people that purchase them.

I originally called them Twenty-Something because I priced them for younger people. I met a lot of young people, just getting started in life, and in budgeting, who really can't afford to buy much original art. This collection is an easy way to begin collecting art, and each one costs about the same as a nice dinner in a restaurant.

Twenty-Somethings.
No frame.
No frills.
$20 bucks a pop.
Original Paintings.

Lady Slipper

One of my 1st memories is of the lady slippers which grew in the dark woods behind my grandmother's house. I remember reaching for the lush pinkness & being told not to touch. Somehow I was made to understand that these flowers were special. Almost sacred, although that word came much later.

Universal Signs World Premier!!!

I'm happy to announce the much anticipated world premier of Universal Signs, the first full-length feature film in Sign Language.

This is a beautiful film in so many ways, and I'm very proud to have my paintings chosen to represent the art of the main character, Andrew (Anthony Natale). It was truly thrilling to work with him.

Many thanks to Ann Calamia and Catherine Miller for inviting me to be a part of this very haunting and poignant film. And to Frank Davis from Qoro, LLC for creating the many amazing in-progress versions of my painting "Gone to Glory" as seen above, as well as his masterful reproductions of all the other paintings used in the filming process.

You can buy Frank's incredible limited edition reproductions here.

The premier is this Saturday at the Keswick Theater in Glenside, PA. Click here for info.

DVD's are available for pre-order.

New Art - "Calico Hearts"

This original mixed media painting is created using collaged papers (some are cut out of old work or my sketch book pages), acrylic paints and various other bits and pieces - ribbon, lace, buttons. I like to recycle little scraps of things I leave behind!

There is lots of detail in the hearts - if you look closely you can see that one of the hearts has some words from the wedding vows, and another has dictionary definitions.

Medium : Acrylics/mixed media on box canvas

Size : 12" X 12" X 1.5" approx (30 x 30 x 3.8 cm approx.)

Poe's Muse

Poe's Muse

Edgar Allan Poe's wife (& cousin) Virginia died of tuberculosis at age 24. When she died Poe is said to have realized that he had no images of her & had a watercolor portrait made of her corpse. This is the only image of Virginia known to exist. She is thought to be the inspiration for the many tragic women found in his writings. Poe's Muse is a blending of Virginia's image and a 1848 daguerreotype of the author.

Blue Ridge Mountains

I spent a week recently - well, OK, it was last week, but I was trying to sound all fancy.
Anyway, last week I was in the beautiful
Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina.
I was there for the Blue Ridge Mountain Christian Writers Conference.
It was a wonderfully inspiring week.

I wished all week that I would have had some paints and canvas with me.
The scenery is breathtaking.

Now that I'm home, I've painted the first painting (of probably several) of the
Blue Ridge Mountains. It is a watercolor ACEO. It's in my Etsy shop.
http://tinyurl.com/ppzjdw

If you attended the BRMCWC and need this lovely little painting as a souvenir, mention the BRMCWC in your Etsy convo and I'll take 15% off of the price.

This ACEO is painted on acid free, professional grade, 140 lb. cold press water color paper and is mounted on a playing card for sturdiness. It is initialed on the front and signed on the back.
You can see more ACEOs, stained-glass panels and other paintings in my Etsy shop

Mary Shelley's Portrait

Artist Interview

Rather than posting my own work, here's an interview on my blog with another artist friend.
Tom Zarrilli is an artist and photographer in Atlanta who writes about his 5 years of weekend visits to area yard sales.

He works with found art and has also created videos from his collections that you can view on my blog and on youtube.

Zarrilli has a major outdoor installation planned for this fall at Agnes Scott College in Decatur, GA and he'll be revisiting his Makeshift Memorials for an academic journal that he plans to publish.

Enjoy!

Miss Edmee...

As I'm in my exams period until mid june, I did not had the time to do some craft for a while. But I would like to show to you my miss Edmee, a real sophisticated retro lady who was part of a treasury on etsy a couple of days ago!

Old-Timey Dreamboats

I finally finished up my Old-Timey Dreamboat series! These handsome old-fashioned hunks are all uploaded to Etsy and ready for your perusal and love. :)

Mokoli'i Solitude

Mokoli'i is the Hawaiian name given to this tiny odd-shaped island on the east side of Oahu, but many people know it better as “Chinaman’s Hat”. Although Oahu is known as “The Gathering Place” and usually the popular beach park that fronts Mokoli'i is filled with beachgoers, it is still possible, on certain days, to find wonderful solitude here. Nothing but the calm bay, and the rugged Koolau Mountains, which make for a perfect tropical island setting.

This is one of my latest palette knife paintings. It is 16 x 20 and I am offering it in my Etsy shop at a great price. Check it out!!

Something Borrowed ...

My newest mixed media painting is inspired by the wedding tradition of "something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue".

The materials I have used include some old (from an old sketchbook experiment), some new (a collage sheet that I had just bought), some (the buttons!) borrowed, and of course, there's some blue in there too!

These small canvases look great simply placed on a fire surround, shelf or bookcase, or of course they can be hung on the wall, either alone or in groups. You can see more in my etsy shop.

This would make a perfect wedding gift!

Size : 5” X 5" X 1.5" approx (12.5 x 12.5 x 3.75 cm approx.)

New Hemp Cannabis Greeting Cards

I 've finally pulled together a series of hemp-cannabis greeting cards made from my recent drawings. I just got them back from the printer today and have listed a set of them in my shop at www.emerlyearts.etsy.com

I was so excited that I drove into our little village to show them to the bookstore owner who buys my cards. Then I went next door to the toy shop owner I'm friends with. The first thing he said was: "Wow. I didn't know you could concentrate this much on weed."

Double meaning.
