"My Girl" Day Twenty Ink Sketch

Years ago two very special dogs came into our lifes, Suzie aka Yellow Fawn and Dexter aka Moose.  They were anonymously given to my parents who eventually gave them to us and they became dear and precious members of our little family.  As far as we could discern they were in the Rhodesian Ridgeback family.

Thumbing through my albums today, I came across a photo of Suzie and it just called out to me as the subject of my Day Twenty Sketch.  Now, mind you, drawing animals is not something that comes easily to me.  I finally decided to challenge myself further in Brenda Swenson's 75 Day Sketch Challenge and at least attempt this drawing.  So here is

Brenda Swenson' "75 Day Sketch Challenge"

I have recently decided to take part in Brenda Swenson's "75 Day Sketch Challenge".  The purpose of this challenge is to build observation and drawing skills.  Each participant sketches one drawing a day for 75 days using only pen and ink ... no pencils or erasers allowed.

I have just finished my eighteenth ink sketch and I am finding my confidence growing.  It truly is a challenge not to make a pre-sketch in pencil, ink over the lines and then erase all pencil marks.

A SWELL DAY FOR SURFING ~ Lisabongzee's Island Dream Life

C'mon people, we would like to see everyone's VAST Creations! :O)
A surfer couple sit high above the thundering waves that roll in from a freak south swell. As they finish up their lunch, they have to decide if they want to hit the monster surf below, potentially risking life and limb for an epic surf day, or to stay and enjoy the magic of Mother Nature's show from their safe, dry, vantage point.
Of course you know they ended up going!

The Making of Something Beautiful - Part One

First panel (painting) in the triptych series "Oak Leaf Glory"

This is the first painting in my latest triptych, "Oak Leaf Glory". I wanted to depict the life cycle of the great oak, from the strong first growth of green to it's final golden glory. I decided to use it's leaves to illustrate this. I use a variety of green pigments, yellow, and iridescent green. The colors shift and glow as you walk around the painting and as light conditions change from day to night and evening lighting. Stay tuned for the next two panels in the coming week and when it's complete will be available at my Etsy store.

To bail out on his girl and hit the monster waves, potentially risking life and limb for an epic surf day, or to stay and enjoy the magic of Mother Nature's show with the one he loves.
