The Chocolate Castle and the Smiling Rock

I'm trying to exercise, but the more I workout, the hungrier I get. I painted this one inspired by my chocolate craving. The rock? Just an excuse to add a smile to this pinkalicious piece.

Mixed Media Collages that Pop!

I'm mainly an abstract painter, and I don't draw very well, so years ago I came up with a way to include recognizable images in my work by printing, cutting and collaging. Instead of just gluing the image down, I attach it to the paper with foam mounting tape, so that it stands up a little, and casts a shadow when light hits it.

These collages are made in a several-step process. First, I draw a grid and paint the squares individually in watercolor on paper. Then I compose the image I want on the computer, changing the size and color as needed. Then I print out a bunch of images on ultra-premium inkjet paper and cut them out. I mount the cut-outs on the painted squares using foam tape. This gives the 3D effect which makes the collage really “pop” on the wall.

My most popular image is the coffee cup, but I recently added some ladybugs and snails, which seemed appropriate for the season.

Downtown Rush at Night

I came up with an accidental shape of a ring, the one at the right. I gave him a couple (pimp looking one with animal print and everything). I then wanted to create a night scene, to go with the romance of the two rings. Then a moon, celestial bodies. The idea of the buildings was just the result of playing around with some round-edge squares I had previously cut for no reason, and the blond in the window is a leftover from cutting a funny shape out of a red piece of paper. How I wish this all made sense...hahaha

Spur of the Moment New Treasury!

Happy to be a new member of the team! (I'm jvdarcy on Etsy, by the way...)

Forest Wisdom Mandala by Sacred Circle Mandalas

Forest Wisdom Mandala (Healing Series) Sue O'Kieffe © 2010

Forest Wisdom Mandala, an eleven-pointed mandala created from a photograph of fiddlehead ferns ,is sure to soothe and calm with its gentle shades of blue, green, and purple mist as well as inspire with its reminder to continue to grow spiritually and expand into your light.

This mandala is printed on 8.5x11" archival Epson matte-finished paper; the image itself is 7.5"x7.5," comes unmatted and is suitable for framing. Each of my mandalas is signed and dated, and is accompanied by a story about the mandala’s creation. My hope is that sharing stories about the art will add more to your understanding about the creation of the mandala you purchase. I package the print and story in a clear plastic envelope against acid-free backing board.

Please come visit my Etsy shop Sacred Circle Mandalas to experience this and other spiritually healing art for the heart and soul

Untitled - Open Edition ACEO Print

The last remaining of a series of collages I did for a creativity class I took in 2006, this image is full of story. Perhaps you can tell me the stories you see; there are so many. I see the natural and manmade and an intense longing to escape from all of it...

This ACEO (Art Cards, Editions, and Originals; 2.5"x3"), part of an open edition, is the newest addition to my Etsy shop. Feel free to take a look at that and my other works there.

Adrien Miller, Learning from the Masters

As a student, it was very important to me to learn painting by studying the greatest artists from history. I've just listed this painting that was an exercise in copying a picture of Danae by Titian in order to learn his technique, and enter into a historical dialogue by slightly transforming it.

It is posted on my etsy shop with more info HERE

You can also see a photographic transformation of it if you explore my blog HERE

Watercolor giclee print

I haven't had a lot of time to paint in the last couple months, but now that I am finished with school I will have a lot more time! I thought I would post some of what I offer in my etsy shop that I have not posted before. This is a vase of tulips to celebrate the tulips in my yard! Yay spring!

Watercolor & Pen Drawing

This painting I actaully did freehand with watercolors and then added the drawing to the painting later. This painting was much bigger, but I didn't like the overall piece so I cropped it and then took a sharpie pen, outlined the flower shapes, and then added more shapes by outlining color and value changes creating a new and unique painting altogether.

Butterfly Effect

This is the latest addition to my etsy shop - it's an unusual round canvas called "Butterfly Effect". I have used  acrylic paints, collaged butterflies and oil pastels, in shades of coffee and chocolate brown.

The canvas measures approx. 12" in diameter and 0.5" deep.

Daisy Stem - oil painting by Sarah Sedwick

I'm back on Etsy!

Here's one I listed last night. I've renewed some listings that were not active so those are available again. I'm mostly excited about adding some new paintings which once I get them photographed I will add them to my store.

This new listing is a birds nest. Inspiration for this painting came from an old bird's nest that my children found in the front yard several years ago and I keep in my home as decoration. Once in a while we find eggs that have dropped out of the trees and broke and we'll add them nest.

Recycled Collages of Watercolor Paintings

Using watercolor as a medium creates a lot of waste, because it's hard to fix a painting that didn't turn out quite right - you usually have to just toss it and start over. I recently came up with a way to re-use much of this "waste" by creating collages from scraps of my old paintings. Because I use a lot of bright color in my work, the scraps are great for creating vivid flowers and butterflies, several of which are now in my etsy shop. I'm also working on some trees and birds, and who knows what else I'll come up with?

Here's the current list of my recycled collages on my etsy shop:http://www.etsy.com/shop/Artmonger?section_id=6762492
