After Life

After Life
watercolor painting
15 x 22
I am interested in the parallel metaphors of the mummy and the cocoon as representations of a time of stasis, wrapped in a protective layer, both as a time of healing and in preparation for emergence into a new life. This painting occurred after a visit to the Egyptian wing of the Field Museum in Chicago where I saw mummified birds, cats, and people.
You can see this and other works on my Etsy site.
