Making Prints From My Greeting Card Designs

The other day I was in Shiretown Books doing a clean-up of all the cards I have with them. After inventorying and re-organizing the cards, about twenty-five orphaned envelopes were left over. I asked Kelly Larson, the owner about it. "How is it that people buy cards and forget to take an envelope?"

"Oh no," she replied, "They don't forget. A lot of people buy your cards as little pieces of art. They go home and frame them. They don't want the envelope."

Really? I was amazed. That made me wonder if I should be offering a larger version of the same design, quote and all, in a little wrapped print suitable for framing in a standard frame. Hmmm. I think I will have some printed up and see how they do. Last Christmas I actually printed and framed a few and gave them as presents to my children. They looked very nice.

Anyways, here are two quick snapshops of my newest card designs in their most recent incarnations. They will both be formatted as 5x7 greeting cards with charming quotations in the center space. In the second one there are two birds in opposite corners and a snake winding up the left side - as yet unpainted. I would say this painting is three or four movies away from completion.

When these cards are finished, you will find them (and possibly their prints) in my Etsy shop: www.EmerlyeArts.etsy.com To follow my process and new work, please take a look at my art blog: www.EmerlyeArts.blogspot.com

Great art is as irrational as great music. It is mad with its own loveliness. – George Jean

This is a digital collage print inspired by "Clair de lune", the third movement of Claude Debussy's piano suite Suite bergamasque, which in itself was a depiction of a poem by French poet Paul Verlaine. (What goes around, comes around?)

Hear it: Clair de Lune

"In the Light of the Moon"

Always the dawn comes after the dark, so here is a companion piece.

"Comes the Dawn"

Both prints are available in my etsy shop now.

Remnants - Recycled Art!

I finished this canvas today and added it to my etsy shop.

It's called "Remnants" - I've used acrylics, bits of old artwork and leftover collaged papers, tags, a little fabric and thread, and various other recycled bits and pieces!

The canvas is 8” X 8" X 1.5" approx and is gallery wrapped and signed and dated on one side.

Woman and Three Flowers ACEO

Introducing my newest design: Woman and Three Flowers. This is based (loosely) on a self-portrait quilt I made few years ago. Being totally addicted to ACEOs, lately, I shrunk the design to 2.5 inches (6.4cm) by 3.5 inches (8.9cm). I would love to have your feedback!

More about this ACEO and other fabric art is located in my shop.

A work in progress...

I wanted to share this work in progress animation-- It's such a fun way to show others a glimpse into the world inside of an artist's head.  This is a large encaustic painting that I'm about 90% complete with.  Perhaps one more session and I'll be done.  It's from a series I'm working on called "Ghosts of the Past" which features images from the American Civil War.

You can see more in this series in my Etsy shop:  http://jamieribisi.etsy.com

Hope you enjoy this!

Drawings

I posted some older drawings on Etsy that I'm now selling in the hopes of preserving them. I have so many old sketchbooks.

These are from the 1980's and most are in charcoal on conté crayon on newsprint or Ingres paper. I loved doing gestural figurative work in Marc Chatov's classes.

Sales have been slowly building over the past few months and last week was a good one. Here's a new painting that sold before it's even dry. I love peonies and have antique roses in my garden along with them. They make wonderful subjects for paintings.

Please visit my shop and my blog for new work and a monthly series of artist interviews.

Thanks and enjoy the warm weather ~
