Today I start work on a set of custom kirigami wedding invitations, commissioned by a lovely young couple in Glasgow, UK. They found my work on Etsy and will be giving these special cards to their 20 closest guests. (All others will be receiving a more traditional invitation.
Here is an example of the kind of card I will be cutting, although each one will be slightly different. All of them will feature a loving couple doing something together. These cards are cone shaped when closed. The wedding information is printed on the front and surrounded with hand-stamping and gilding. When the card is opened, the three dimensional image pops out, as you see here.
I am toying with the idea of having several of my best designs laser cut so I can produce larger quantities of these beautiful and unique cards. Got to go to a laser-cutter in Burlington later this week. This batch, however, will be hand cut.
You can see individual kirigami cards for sale at my Etsy shop here. (www.Emerlyeartskirigami.etsy.com)
When I finish them, I will put pictures up on my art blog here (www.Emerlyearts.blogspot.com)
