PINWHEELS FOR PEACE
This morning my son and I enjoyed a peaceful time together as we created Pinwheels for Peace. He is now joyfully running around the room as his pinwheel spins round and round. We will be participating in an art installation project on International Day of Peace by placing our pinwheels for peace along with many others in a public location. This will be going on throught the US and I belive internationally as well. It was begun in 2005 by two art teachers in Florida. They started with 500,000 pinwheels the first year and last year over 1.2 million were placed .
The teachers encouraged their students to write how they felt about peace , be it world peace, or peace within their own lives on the pinwheels. This morning as I constructed my own I wrote out the dreams I have about peace on the back. Please visit my blog for the official site of Pinwheels for Peace.
If you do not know how to make a pinwheel , don't worry , I didn't either until this morning. It is incredibly easy.And it does not have to be prefect. You can write what you envision for world peace , paint, color, draw, or decorate it anyway you choose. The complete directions to make a pinwheel are on the site as well as the locations of each event. I hope you can find one near you and participate, maybe they can grow it to 2 million pinwheels for peace this year!

I teach 3rd Grade and this would be a great project for my class to do. I know that peace week is in early spring. When is the Pinwheels for peace day? =) Thanks for sharing!

What a wonderful undertaking this is. I may be dating myself here, but I remember those pinwheels as a child!
