As an artist, I'm fascinated by the way we insist on trying to understand everything around us, turn it into meaning, the science of semiotics, if you like. This painting, in part, is a reflection on that process. Walking Man is, at some levels, just that... a figure walking along through the painting. He is, however, also walking through signs and symbols, some of which are recognisably from other times and other cultures, some of which are not. So what does it mean?
