Encaustic is a new word for me. I would love for you to blog here and tell us what that is.

Greetings..
Here's some information on the amazing art process of encaustic painting. It is one of the oldest forms of painting. It is painting with beeswax and pure pigment and damar resin. You paint with hot beeswax paint that is heated on a griddle or pallette over a hot plate.

After every layer of paint you have to fuse the paint with a heat gun... all the layers of wax melt together. You can embed anything, texturize, carve away and build up with the wax. The paint can be buffed glossy smooth or very textural. Our contemporary crayons are a direct desendent of ancient encaustic...

Check out my blog http://www.caterina-artfullmusings.blogspot.com for process photos of my work...
