"Little girls, this seems to say
Never stop upon the way
Never trust a stranger friend
No-one knows where it may end
As you're pretty, so be wise
Wolves may lurk in every guise
Now as then, 'tis simple truth
Sweetest tongue has sharpest tooth."

THE USE OF ART IN DEALING WITH GRIEF

July 14, 2008 my Mother was diagnoised with stage four lung cancer. Wow, at that moment my world came to a stop. It was hard was hard that first month, my heart was racing crazily, the tears just would not stop.
What to do to keep my mind from thoughts of her mortality? I found myself in my studio with a blank hardboards, encaustic all around I just began melting them and poring them on my boards. What beautiful spiritual paintings appeared. From a single rose with blackened stems feeding it's petals, this was her cancer my subconscious mind saw. Three other paintings followed with ethereal beings in them. One more floral painting with little angelic faces in it.
What I left out is that my Mother and I share a psychic side. We share the ability to help others with our intuitive intuition.

LOYAL FRIENDS FOR THE WALL

I have been going through my personal collection of award winning pet portraits that I am ready to say good bye too.
It is always hard to part with something you love. I am a dog lover who's very special friend died in 1991. I have had a hard time dealing with this loss, but what had helped me was painting pet portraits for others. My works are unique in that as I sketch out the pet my mind receives psychic vibrations that am help to rely to the owner.
Here are few of my painting that I am willing to say good bye to.

Introducing my art to the VAST Team : "Simple Joys" - A Series of Still Life Paintings

Would you care for some Wine?

Wine Glass & Bowl of Grapes is an original oil painting from a series of 26 Still lifes.

This painting pays tribute to wine and winemaking and is an invitation to enjoy the simple pleasures that life has to offer.

In many of my works I use a glass of wine to personify the main character and the human spirit. They are concerned with the simple joys of life, leisure, and contemplation.

WHY WOMEN HAVE CURVES

To be alluring creatures , sway our hips as we walk, swing our hips wide as we dance, or give them a little shimming. Shake our breast in a dance, bounce them up and down in a run. Take a hoop twirl the waist to keep it up, roll it from bottom to top in a belly dance.

Landfill Art

I am struggling with my latest paintings so nothing new to post except for my painted hubcap for The Landfill Project. Kristen Stein first mentioned this project on her Facebook wall and I was intrigued. The title is 'Back to the Garden'.

Here's the blurb from the founder Ken Marquis and you can view my piece above. It will be donated, there will be an exhibit and eventually a published book showcasing all 1041 'metal canvases'.
Fun to paint, but difficult to conceive because I've never before painted a round 3 dimensional object. And it's in acrylic, not my usual oils.

"The 1,041 pieces of rusted metal are actually old automobile hub caps from the 1930’s through the 1970’s.  Each hub cap, after being cleaned and primed, is affectionately called a “metal canvas.”  Although most “metal canvases” have been transformed by the artist using oil or acrylic paint, some have been weaved on, glued or screwed or welded to, or made into fine sculpture.

...Although the project is in its infancy (I hope to have it completed by 2012,) it will evolve from a simple idea of taking forty-one old rusted hub caps and creating forty-one pieces of great art.  The second phase has already started with the acquisition of one thousand additional (1000) rusted hub caps which will be turned into cleaned and primed “metal canvases.  The project will continue with finding one thousand (1000) talented artists who believe in this project.

The third phase will involve publishing a book on the project showcasing all one thousand forty one (1,041) completed metal canvases.

The fourth and final phase will involve choosing 200 metal canvases that adequately represent the project and create a traveling show. The book and traveling show will publically portray the global art community's effort to positively impact the environment through repurposing previous metal waste into great landfillart."
