Small Olives by Robin Maria Pedrero

“I respond to what catches my eyes and heart, drawing and painting with colors, shapes and lines. Charcoal, pastel, graphite, colored pencil, ink, acrylic or oil paint are utilized on various papers, wood, or canvas. I capture life and simple pleasures applying rhythmic patterns and geometrics in translucent layers. I personify nature through color and movement evoking moods of transition, strength, joy and serenity. I use a symbolic visual language exploring the visible and invisible creating a commentary on relationships and thoughts. As I work the images can be unexpected flowing from gathered memories. Within the placed pigment I enhance my perceptions of faces, animals, cities or fauna to share them with the viewer. As an artist sometimes I am caught in the beauty of the moment, I stare at the world moving me to create a piece of art that is emotive and will stand through time.”

Warm Spiced Cup by Robin Maria Pedrero

Perfect no need to frame ready to hang or stands alone on a table or shelf.
The scent of autumn, and cooler air, and the delicious warm spiced cup.
I have been an artist all of my life. I grew up in Connecticut and live in Florida now. I love to travel and use my experiences in my art. I sat under the trees for several summers drawing on a huge chalkboard as a child and began fine art studies at the age of thirteen. I rode my bike where Foxwoods casino now sits near her hometown of Norwich, CT. My early exhibitions began in a seaport town at The Mystic Art Association. Acknowledged for my luminous landscapes and captivating portraits I have since become an established award winning artist; published in magazines, newspapers, documentaries, and news broadcasts. Jeffrey Spalding judged my work best of show with a "magical use of color" as Director of the Appleton Museum in Ocala Florida. I am an elected signature member of the Pastel Society of America. Collected worldwide my works are in private and corporate collections. I am represented by several galleries in America. I work from my home studio in Longwood Florida, enjoying the company of my dog Max.

A Breath of New Air

Just recently I undertook a project which put me totally out of my element. My granddaughter asked me to paint a unicorn for her birthday. Explicit instructions included size (big) and color (pink with green eyes and pink and blue hair). Now I might add that my granddaughter is an extraordinarily talented young artist herself, and her grandma is very proud of her. (Not that her grandma would exaggerate, but she spends her spare time creating art a large percentage of the time!) She would much rather paint or draw with markers than fill in coloring pages, and she really is pretty good for being just six years old.

The unicorn was not a subject I have ever tried before. I know a lot of girls draw horses when they are young, but not me. The number of horses I have tried to draw or paint, ever, could probably be counted on my fingers. However, this was a labor of love, and I grew to love it and hope she will as well.

The original acrylic painting is 16 x 20 inches. I may do prints, and if I do I would put them into my shop, DreamON, sometime in the future.

So here is the unicorn, and I hope you enjoy it. Copyright 2009 by Mary M. Hamilton.

New work

This is some new work that I'll be showing next week at Novus gallery in Manchester; top are "Love letters" and "September", and bottom is "the Memory Collector".

The canvases are all acrylics/mixed media, and each one is 12 x 32" x 1.5" deep. They make make an appearance in my etsy shop at some point (assuming they don't all sell out - got to think positive, eh?!)

Figure Collage by Gallery Juana

collage by Gallery Juana

Click the image or Here for more information on the Artwork above.

I really love painting the nude figure. This watercolor painting was done on washi (Japanese paper) and then glued to gessoed wood. I painted around the figure with Acrylic for the background. This is ready to hang. It's light enough to rest flush against the wall on a nail.

Visit my Gallery Juana Website to learn more about rice paper.

THE WITCHING HOUR

On a cold misty eve the darkness comes alive with the pagan ways. Glorifying the earth it's richness. Giving alms to what nourishes us. Here are two beauties in their black dresses to match the night. Under the midnight sky they stand another cylce has ended another beings, to which they give thanks. The earth , sky, moon and air are the reality of life. To bless these two beauties go about their business with none aware of there being. In falling darkness above their heads ,and fog about their feet. They reach out into the midnight hour to cast their faith in human kind. To cast a spell is no longer the way but to do unto others as you would unto to your self.

Tea Time Original 24x30" Painting

This is about what I am ready for now - a nice hot cup of tea and some time all to myself (probably with a good book). I went to a convention this weekend and it just wore me out.

Red Tulip

I've been painting a lot of things really close up lately. I love how this painting is shapes and colors and shadows and light and then all of a sudden it's a tulip!

4"x4" acrylic on gallery wrapped canvas.... Click here to purchase!
I finally finished my newest painting in my zinnia series! It's been something of a journey for me; from trying to paint while I was sick, (I should NEVER paint with a fever!) to doing a series of battles with the background, and then having to adjust the colors of the flowers each time I changed the background....... Anyway, yesterday I was finally happy with what I had, although I always see areas in my work that I would tweak if I allowed myself. Sometimes, for me, it's hardest to make myself stop working when a painting just needs to be complete!
You can see more pictures of my new zinnia painting in my ETSY Shop.
Cheers!

Birds on Wires

Hello everyone,

As we move into fall, I wanted to share a piece that I just finished for a benefit called 'eat for art'.

This tray measures 9"x13" and will be auctioned off on October 3rd in Hudson, NY. It is the largest encaustic I have created thus far and has inspired me to make larger encaustics and also to work on some bird pieces in the encaustic and oil combo. For more information on the benefit or to see work, go to http://www.artscolumbia.org/, http://www.aliherrmann.com/, http://www.aliherrmann.etsy.com/

New work

I have just finished this canvas, which will be part of a small exhibition I am taking part in this month. Sometimes I start a painting from just a title that's in my head, and this one started out that way - it's called "The Memory Collector".

The canvas measures 12 x 32 x 1.5". I've used acrylic paints and collaged luggage tags, with lots of different techniques and ephemera - I had great fun hunting for things that I could use!

I'm currently also working on another 2 this size/shape. I like the long thin format, though if I end up putting them for sale online after the show, they're a nightmare to photograph, so hopefully they'll sell off line! :)

You can see more of my work in my etsy shop.

Solitude

This is a painting I did recently after a stroll on a hot summer day along a dusty road near my home in Iowa. It is a reflection of the heat, the shimmering waves of green, the lush overgrowth, and the silence of the hot summer day, so I call this painting "Solitude".
It is painted on ccanvas board with acrylic paints and can be seen at my shop on Etsy.

New Fall work

One of two paintings from this past week after a magnificent late summer storm rolled in over the hills. Standing in a local park with a colleague on a break from archiving our township’s historic documents, we watched the sky change color and the winds come up. The storm was the tail end of Hurricane Bill and plunked down more rain that we didn’t need. The visuals lodged in my memory and evolved into a slightly larger than usual work - at least for the year’s production.
'Late August', Oil on canvas 16″x32″, 2009.

Check out my Etsy shop and my personal blog, where you'll find information on the new Metropolis Art Video Competition. Win 20 grand ($20,000) and get screened in Times Square.
